Galshiels 1/31/2017

January 30th 2017 Galashiels, Scotland

(In front of The Edinburgh Castle)

Hello Everyone!

We got moves call Saturday night. Elder Watson is moving to Waterford in Ireland. I am getting Elder Giles who is moving from the Shetland islands. I'm sad to see him go. He has been my longest companion!

Well here was our week

On Monday, I was in Edinburgh for another doctors appointment. Afterwards we strolled through Edinburgh. We walked up the royal mile go look at the Edinburgh Castle. We didn't go inside because it costs like £25. We did get some good pictures.

On Wednesday we celebrated Burns Night with Brother Cameron, a member in the branch. It is in celebration of the Scottish writer/poet, Robert Burns. The traditional Burns supper is Haggis Neeps and Tatties. It was my first time having Haggis. It was actually pretty good!

This week we also watched a worldwide broadcast for missionaries. They discussed changes in the missionary schedule. We now have planning in the morning and our companionship study can be when is best for us. It gives missionaries more flexibility and agency. Our P-Day also starts at 8am instead of 10am.

Mark and Kate were able to come to church. They came for all 3 hours. Mark is making really good progress. The only really obstacle is helping him stop smoking. He wants to stop, so we are going help him reach his goal!

This week will be interesting! I pick up Elder Giles today. We also have a All Scotland Conference on Thursday!

I’m sad to see Elder Watson go but I know he has some good work to do in Waterford!

1/23/17 Galashiels, Scotland

January 23rd 2017 Galashiels, Scotland

Hello Everyone!

So a long long time ago, in Western New York, Joseph Udy was born. His dad really liked star wars and showed it to Joseph. His dad had a Gold VHS Star Wars Trilogy boxset just like above. As you all probably know, Joseph loves Star Wars! In Galashiels, while looking through Charity Shops,  Elder Udy saw the same boxset from his childhood. He could not afford the £ 2.50 ($3.11) VHS Box set. Elder Udy did however tell his Investigator Mark about what he found in the charity shop. Mark loves buying star wars toys/gifts for Elder Udy. So he went and bought this and surprised Elder Udy with it. Elder Udy was so excited that he had to include in his email about it. The End…

Well hoped you enjoyed that story.

This past week was great. The weather was wonderful.

This Past Monday, Sister Donaldson took us to Costco. There we bought several things. We bought a 4.5 kg bag of pancake mix, a liter of maple syrup, and a big box of granola bars.

We had some great lessons with Mark and Kate (sorry I keep meaning to get a photo of them but I forgot). We started reteaching Mark the discussions and preparing kate to go to the temple.

Mark wasn't able to go to church because he starting passing out because of high blood pressure. He said to the paramedics “I don’t want to go to the Hospital, I want to go to church in the morning”. The Lord knows his heart. I’m grateful to have met Mark. He is a great friend.

This week I’ve been studying about the parable of the talents. What I learned is that we are given much and God expects us to do our best. We shouldn't compare ourselves to other. What matters is how God sees you. I’m grateful that Heavenly Father has given me certain gifts and also disabilities. I know that he is Happy when I do my best.

This week a member is making haggis neeps and tatties, a traditional scottish meal. Elder Watson and I haven't had haggis before so it will be a fun time!

I hope you all have a wonderful week

Elder Joseph Udy

1/16/17 Galashiels

January 16th 2017 Galashiels, Scotland

Hello Everyone!

This week we had…

That’s right… Snow… I absolutely loved it.

I got to shovel as well which brought back some great memories

It was very cold this week.

We shoveled the driveway of the church. Got into sort of of a snowball fight with Elder Watson. Fun times.

This week was tough because of the weather but we managed to do some finding.

Mark and Kate are doing fine. Kate is in the process of moving so we have been helping with that.

They weren't able to come to the church which was sad:(

Today I’m in Edinburgh for a doctor's appointment. We stayed overnight in the mission home which was cool.

Sister Donaldson is taking us to Costco today (which is really fun for those Americans serving in the UK). We are going to buy some good stuff to take back to Galashiels!

I hope you are doing well!

Have a great Week

Love,

Elder Joseph Udy
