March 27th 2017 Dumfries, Scotland

    March 27th 2017 Dumfries, Scotland

(Last weeks PDay activity, we went to Caerlaverock Castle)

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful week!

Last week for Pday we went to Caerlaverock castle! Our friend John (still don’t know his last name so i’ll call him John the Pharmacist) was kind enough to take us there. It was such a cool castle. It’s shaped like a shield. It even has a moat around it! Here are some pictures from it!

(This picture was really scary to take because I could have fell in the moat)

The beginning of the this week was really rainy (no surprise).

We did a lot of street contacting this week. We set up some pretty good appointments for this week which I’m excited for.

The second part of the week so really sunny! Saturday, they always have tons of market stands out in the town centre so we were able to talk to a bunch of people. Since it was so nice, we got a small lunch from the chippie. I got deep fried battered Haggis and chips with brown sauce! YUM

It's not the only time I had Haggis this week. John took us to a tea room where we got some really good Raspberry Hot Chocolate and I got a Haggis Roll!

We taught Mark Omar again this week. We taught the Plan of Salvation and asked him his beliefs on the purpose of this life. He also showed us some of his prayers that he does. It was cool to learn more about Judaism!

Elder Harvey showed off his kilt to us
The Turners had us over Sunday Evening. They made us some really good stu with puff pastry. Afterwards they showed us their chicken coup and their property! Elder Anderson also tried to catch a big huge pheasant that was roaming their yard!

Well that was basically the week

I hope you all have a great week

Love,

Elder Joseph Udy

March 20th 2017 Dumfries Scotland

March 20th 2017 Dumfries Scotland

Hello Everyone!

It has been a great first week here in Dumfries.

It is a lot bigger then Galashiels. Its great to have 4 missionaries here, we have a lot of fun finding. We usually take a whiteboard into the town centre and ask people questions.

We met this man named Peter while whiteboarding. We had a great lesson with him. He suffers from mental challenges so I was able to testify how the Atonement of Jesus Christ can strengthen us because of my trials. Unfortunately, he dropped us over text latter in the week.

Wednesday the missionaries here teach a scripture study class at the church. So we that with the other missionaries. We taught a intro to the Book of Mormon!

On  Friday we went to the Turners, a family in the Dumfries Ward. They made a roast with gravy and yorkshire pudding. Yummm.

Saturday, a man named John Samuels had us over. He is a friend that likes having the missionaries over. He owns and operates his own pharmacy in town. He made a great stew. He also showed us his picture when he went to Jerusalem.

We also taught this man named Mark Omar. He is a Jew. It was my first time teaching a jew. We came out of the lesson knowing what to teach next time. It was just hard to know because most Jews don’t believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer of the world.

Sunday was a great day. I got to meet most of the members! It's the biggest Ward/Branch that I’ve been in one in my mission!

We went over after church to the Goodare, another family in the ward. We helped cook a ton of frozen pizzas and garlic bread. I made the dessert of course, “Eat and Mess” a desert that has a lot of sugar and fruit! It was Elder Harvey’s birthday so we had a yummy costco cake. After the others had fun singing and playing instruments while I played with Elijah, one of the younger kids, and his train tack set. Brought back some good memories!

This week I have been doing a study of some of the doctrinal mastery scriptures. Lets just say that my mind has been fed:)

Well that was basically the week. Sorry that I have no pictures but we are going to a castle today so I have pictures next week!

Love,

Elder Joseph Udy

March 14th 2017 Dumfries, Scotland

       March 14th 2017 Dumfries, Scotland

All of my stuff packed up!

Hello Everyone!

As you can see from my letter heading that I am in Dumfries. Saturday we got our moves call and I started my journey yesterday morning! My new companion is Elder Harvey. There is two other Elders in Dumfries so we live in a 4 Elder apartment! I’m excited to work here in Dumfries (it's pronounced  dum-freess)

For my last week in Galashiels we have been contacting some former investigators and less active members of the branch.

What Happens when people don’t pick up their dog’s poo… They get angry

We also found the 100 aker woods!

Its was really sad to leave Galashiels. I have grown to love the people here and the beauty!

Sunday we attended the Edinburgh Stake conference. It was my first stake conference on my mission. I loved it! The speakers gave awesome talks! I really enjoyed President Donaldson’s talk. He stated our purpose and that we are here to serve the people of Scotland! President Freed, The Stake president, gave a wonderful talk. He talked about an experience where he went to a refugee camp and saw the cruel live that people have there. Afterwards he said he and some colleagues went back to their 5 Star hotel. He felt ashamed because they were discussing how to help the refugees but at the same time they were in a really nice hotel. He urged us to get out of the 5 star hotels and serve!

I also got to see Elder Vasvary (or Mate Vasvary)  who was one of my companions in Sligo. He is attending the University of Stirling!

My last visit with Mark and Kate was very sad. I finally got a picture with them:

Well at stake conference I got to meet a lot of the members from Dumfries. They other missionaries say there is over 100 active members in the ward!

Well I look forward to my first week here in Dumfries

I hope you all have a great week!

Love,

Elder Joseph Udy
